Music Minor

Requirements for a Minor in Music
Requirements total eight to nine course credits.
- Four semesters of applied study: MUS 006 PO , MUS 007 PO , MUS 010 PO , MUS 015 PO , MUS 020 PO or MUS 100 PO .
- Four semesters of ensemble: MUS 031 PO , MUS 032 PO , MUS 033 PO , MUS 035 PO , MUS 037 PO , MUS 040 PO , MUS 041 PO or any MUS 042 PO. Students may fulfill this requirement with a combination of different ensemble courses.
- Two courses in history and literature, selected from the following: MUS 051 PO , MUS 057 PO , MUS 060 PO , MUS 062 PO , MUS 068 PO , MUS 121 PO or MUS 122 PO .
- Two courses in theory from the following list, at least one of which must be MUS 080 PO or MUS 081 PO : MUS 004 PO , MUS 080 PO , MUS 081 PO , MUS 082 PO , MUS 091 PO , MUS 095 PO , or MUS 184 PO .
- One course in ethnomusicology: MUS 065 PO , MUS courses numbered in the 70s or MUS 088 PO.
Consult with the department chair for questions about how a course not appearing on these lists would be counted.
All courses required for the Music Minor that are offered for a letter grade should be taken for a letter grade. Students may petition the Music Department for exceptions to this rule. Students are encouraged to consult with the Music Department in advance to determine whether academic work completed on study abroad, at one of the other Claremont Colleges or at another institution, can fulfill the minor requirements.
