Linguistics Major

Requirements for the Major in Linguistics

1. Introductory course: LGCS 010 PO  
2. Required Courses:

• LGCS 105 PO    or LGCS 118 PO     
• LGCS 108 PO  
• LGCS 112 PO   or LGCS 112 PZ  

3. Methods Courses: One of the following three courses

• LGCS 104 PO  
• LGCS 124 PO  
• LGCS 125 PO  

4. An LGCS advanced linguistics course numbered above LGCS160
5. Either one additional methods course, or one additional advanced LGCS linguistics course
6. Three additional linguistics courses; options include linguistics courses at any level at the 5Cs and study abroad courses in linguistics (for which credit is requested by petition to the department). LGCS 011 PO  can also be counted towards this requirement. Some courses with a language focus that are not linguistics courses may fulfill this requirement with advance approval of the Linguistics coordinator. Note that some LGCS and LGCS-affiliated courses (those that do not focus on language) do not count towards this requirement.  
7. Senior exercise

• All senior Linguistics majors take LGCS 190 PO  (Senior seminar in Linguistics) in the fall, which includes a senior seminar paper. This satisfies the senior exercise requirement.
