This course will focus on software for embedded real-time systems, in which software is part of a larger product or system instead of the software itself being the product. Topics to be covered include the management and development of real-time systems, requirements analysis and issues, data coherency in multitasking software, latency and pipeline delay, project scope and techniques, cost and impact of delays, and common pitfalls that lead to software being the lagging portion of product development. Students will attend lectures, read relevant texts, and conduct labs in which independent projects will provide experience in working with micro-controller-based systems in controlling physical and simulated environments. Satisfies the following General Education Requirement(s), subject to conditions explained in the Degree Requirements section of this Catalog: Area 5
