This course explores historical and anthropological approaches to the study of policing in the United States. With a special emphasis on race and ethnicity, the course will examine several case studies on the policing of Black, Indigenous, Asian, and Muslim communities across American urban centers. In addition, it will probe contemporary abolitionist movements aimed at dismantling policing. Letter grade only.
