The structure, bonding and symmetry of transition metal-containing molecules and inorganic solids are discussed using molecular orbital, ligand field and soft/hard acid-base theories, trans effect and physical organometallic chemistry with an emphasis on their application in organometallic catalysis, bioinorganic chemistry and energy production. Letter grade only. Prerequisites: CHEM 001B PO or CHEM 051 PO . Completion of CHEM 110A PO is preferred.
