Group singing of songs from the Age of Sailing Ships, in African-American, Irish-American, British, and Caribbean traditions. Focus on chanties (working songs) of sailors and dockers, along with other maritime material (instrumentals, ballads) according to student interest. Emphasis on verbal creativity and improvisation, within “traditional” forms. No prior musical training required. P/NC only.
