The emergence and collapse of the U.S.S.R. in the 20th century was a global phenomenon. This course examines the image that the Soviet state projected to the world; the faith and disillusionment of foreign intellectuals who admired the socialist experiment; and the political and cultural ties that the U.S.S.R. cultivated from Europe to the Americas, Africa and Asia. (Europe since the Renaissance)
