This course explores the history of ancient Greece, from the wrath of Achilles to the campaigns of Alexander the Great, from the archaic world of Odysseus to the democratic splendors of Periclean Athens (ca. 1200 – 323 B.C.E.) There will be a strong emphasis on critical engagement with the entire range of primary sources, including the Homeric epics, the histories of Herodotus and Thucydides, and the material and archaeological remains.
