Chinese Major

Chinese
Courses. All lower and upper division courses for the major must be taken for a letter grade.
Students must declare a major in Chinese no later than June 1 of the end of their junior year. The course requirements for the Chinese major are as follows:
- Eight upper-division courses, including CHIN 111A PO , CHIN 111B PO , two courses from CHIN 125 PO , CHIN 127 PO , and CHIN 150 PO ; CHIN 131 PO ; either CHNT 164 PO or CHNT 166 PO ; and either CHNT 167 PO or CHNT 168 PO ; and one other upper-division course in Chinese or Chinese Literature in translation or a China-related course in another department approved by the ALL department.
- Senior Project (CHIN 192A PO , CHIN 192B PO ), guided research on a selected topic in each semester of the final year.
Oldenborg. All majors are encouraged to reside in Oldenborg Center for at least one year.
Study abroad. All majors are required to participate in a study-abroad program endorsed by this department. Chinese majors must attend either the Associated Colleges in China program in Beijing or the C. V. Starr-Middlebury Schools Abroad program in Hangzhou. If a student is unable to attend an existing Pomona-endorsed program, participation in certain other programs may be permitted upon consultation with the faculty and approval by the Study Abroad Committee.
