Requirements for the Major in Theatre
- Core Requirements (6 credits)
- One course in performance: THEA 001A PO , THEA 001C PO , THEA 001E PO , THEA 001G PO , THEA 001F PO , THEA 007 PO , or THEA 008 PO .
- One course is design: THEA 002 PO .
- Two courses in theatre history/dramatic literature: THEA 030 PO or THEA 031 PO .
- One course (or the equivalent) in movement: THEA 013 PO or THEA 014 PO , and/or any studio course taught by the Pomona College Dance Program or the Scripps College Dance Department. (This requirement may be met by one full credit course, or a combination of two half-courses, which can be in a single subject, or spread out among two of the three above.)
- One course in theatre technology: THEA 021 PO , THEA 022 PO , THEA 023 PO , or THEA 024 PO .
- Electives (2 credits). Any combination of full or half-credit courses not taken as part of the core requirements above. Majors are encouraged to take at least one theater elective containing a community engagement component.
- Junior Seminar (1 credit). THEA 188 PO .
- Senior Exercise (1 credit).
- THEA 191H PO - Senior Thesis (half-credit) for two semesters or THEA 191F PO - Senior Thesis (full credit) for one semester.

- THEA 192H PO - Senior Project (half-credit) for two semesters. The first semester will typically be project research and conceptualization: The second semester will typically be project realization and assessment. Or THEA 192F PO - Senior Project (full credit) for one semester. Special permission is required for THEA 192F PO .
The faculty as a whole must approved each Senior Exercise no later than the end of the junior year. Some Senior Projects will have specific electives as prerequisites.
- Production Crew Assignments (3 courses). Academic credit for this work is available but not required. See THEA 051C PO and THEA 051H PO , and/or THEA 052C PO and THEA 052H PO .
Students majoring in theatre are expected to actively participate in the departmental production program, which normally includes four major productions, a dance concert and a number of student-directed productions. Theatre majors are also expected to attend workshops, lectures and other events sponsored by the department as part of their educational enrichment.
Declared theatre majors and minors must take all required courses within the department for a letter grade. |
