ARHI114 PO - Print Culture: History, Theory, Practice

This course will introduce students to the history, theory, and practice printmaking in Europe, Asia, and the Americas with emphasis on first-hand analysis of works in the collections held at the Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College and the Williamson Gallery at Scripps College. Students will consider the development of various printmaking techniques, including woodcut, engraving, etching, and lithography. Each semester the course is offered will present a different special topic. Course assignments will be designed to include writing for exhibition texts, development of sample exhibition checklists, artist biographies, and other object-based research.
