ART027A PO - The Chair - Explorations of the Speculative and the Pragmatic

This is a beginning level sculpture course. The class is not about learning how to become a chair maker. While at points the course may look like a wood shop class, or a furniture class, or a design class, please think of the class as art making. Artists have long used the chair as a vehicle of representation to embody ideas and narratives. Students will learn a broad range of conceptual and technical skills surrounding the pragmatic and speculative chair. While wood will be a central material to the course, students will engage supporting materials and processes. (Previously offerred as ART 127 PO)
