This course explores the durable coexistence of democracy and political inequality in U.S. politics, from the Colonial era to the present day. We will use political science, sociology, history, economics, and legal texts to better understand the vicissitudes of group-based political status. Special attention is devoted to race, ethnicity, migration, economic class, sex, gender, political parties, interest groups, social movements, and geography. Satisfies the following General Education Requirement(s), subject to conditions explained in the Degree Requirements section of this Catalog: PO Area 2 Requirement
