We know that Shakespeare’s plays work. They function successfully as poetic and dramatic engines. We know something about how Shakespeare got there. This course, which is intended as an introduction to literary studies, is a project in reverse engineering. Given that Shakespeare’s path to becoming Shakespeare is closed to us, this course asks: what are the other ways of getting there? Possible components include: words, voices, platforms and publics. Requirements include active participation and written work. Letter grade only. (H2, PO) Previously offered as ENGL077 PO.
