Interpretations of social, political and economic responses around the world to alcohol and other mind-altering drugs from the rum and tobacco trades to crack and the drug wars. Topics include: substances and society, drug markets, the opium wars, prohibition, 1960s drug cultures, wars on drugs, legalization, addiction treatment and recovery.
