BIOL104 PO - Conservation Biology with Laboratory

Recent estimates place as many as half of the species on Earth at risk of extinction from habitat loss, climate change, and overexploitation. This course introduces problems and solutions facing species and ecosystems with an explicit linkage to household and societal decisions. Topics include threats to species from local to global scales, population viability analysis, ecosystem services, the role of social norms and personal values in conservation, and decision-support tools for conservation practice. Students will conduct their own studies in the field and will apply scientific computing tools such as geospatial analyses, data wrangling, and simulation modeling. Prerequisites: BIOL 041E PO   or EA 030 PO
