An investigation of the complex relationship between language and identity in the French-speaking world. Who speaks French, how they speak it and why it matters. Increased oral and written proficiency and awareness of sociolinguistic issues through the analysis of primary documents regarding the history and politics of standardization; language policy in France and abroad and the meaning of regional and stylistic variation.
