What does Marcel Proust’s monumental project teach us about French literature? How did his pastiches and references to the literary canon help Proust write? This course connects close readings of passages from “La Recherche” and their direct and indirect sources (Marie de France, Ronsard, Racine, Chateaubriand, Nerval, Sand, Bergson, etc.) as a way to review the spectrum of French literature. Prerequisites: FREN 101 PO or the equivalent. Satisfies the following General Education Requirement(s), subject to conditions explained in the Degree Requirements section of this Catalog: Area 1; Language Requirement
