This course examines historical works from a range of fields and periods in order to explore the kinds of approaches, questions, topics and forms of evidence we use to make sense of history. We will use the readings - some classics in their fields, others notable for innovative approaches or significant contributions - to consider the many different ways in which we read, write, study and use history and historical materials.
