An introduction to fundamental concepts in natural language processing and computational linguistics, a field whose goals include enabling human-computer interaction via language, text translation and understanding. Use of statistical and logical techniques to study language processing at word, syntactic and semantic levels. Assignments require constructing and modifying systems as well as using large, existing corpora for validation. Prerequisites: CSCI 052 PO and CSCI 062 PO (or the CMC equivalents); or CSCI 060 HM and CSCI 070 HM . Satisfies the following General Education Requirement(s), subject to conditions explained in the Degree Requirements section of this Catalog: Area 5
