Eisenstadt Credit: 1 An introduction to Jewish philosophy in the modern period, focusing on its relation to the wider philosophical tradition and to Christian thought. We begin with early modern attempts to define Judaism as against secular society, and follow this concern as it evolves into contemporary theory about the role of dialogue with the other in the formation of the individual. We read Spinoza, Mendelssohn, Rosenzweig, Buber, and Levinas.
