We will examine California’s geologic past and present as it dynamically records the processes shaping Earth from within and at the surface. Class, laboratory, and field experiences guide discovery of plate tectonics, rocks, minerals, the rock cycle, geologic time, evolution, mountain building, and erosion. Special emphasis is placed on the relationship of humans to California’s and Earth’s geologic hazards, limited natural resources, and changing climate. Field trips.
