BIOL174 PO - Programming and data analysis for Biologists

This course provides an introduction to the analysis of big data in Biology. Topics include: Models of sequence evolution, sequence alignment, microbiome analysis, analysis of next-gen sequencing data, multivariate analysis, ordination techniques, databases and web programming. The examples used will include both molecular and ecological data. Laboratory incorporates programming exercises in python and R. Basic programming experience in any language is required. Any programming course (prerequisite may be waived if student has practical programming experience). Prerequisites: BIOL040 PO and one of the following: CSCI005 HM or CSCI030 PO or CSCI051 PO or by permission of instructor.
